Will this week's turmoil on Wall Street extend to Main Street? We've got a package of stories coming in Sunday's Business section that will try to answer that question for readers.

We'll be running a special edition of The Wall Street Journal Sunday in our Business section that tells you what you need to know about this week's historic meltdown of the financial markets.

The two-page special edition will include stories on what's happening, why it's happening, how it affects you and what to expect next; what you should do amid the crisis and what you shouldn't do; what protections are in place for AIG and other insurance policyholders; and how average Americans are dealing with the crisis.

The Wall Street Journal Sunday is a weekly package of articles and information focused on personal finance and careers that runs in more than 80 newspapers.

The News-Gazette will begin carrying Wall Street Journal Sunday Nov. 2 in the Business section.

I'm surprised the N-G hasn't assigned any of its reporters to do an enterprising story on how the financial markets melt down affects local businesses or even if it does. With the U. of I. here, there would be plenty of economists and financial experts to talk with, as well as realtors and bankers. I was not impressed with the special edition on Sept. 21, but here we are 10 days later and we get pages and pages of high school sports but nothing on the biggest financial melt down in 80 years.

The Wall Street Journal Sunday package on Sept. 23 addressed a number of questions that people might have about the effect of the meltdown on their personal finances. It was not local, but it didn't have to be. Don Dodson has a couple of stories in today's (Oct. 1) paper that do look at local angles, including whether the credit crunch is affecting individuals and businesses. Seems that the effect of the meltdown locally is minimal so far. This is an issue we will continue to cover.
