While I'm watching Illinois-Ohio State on Saturday, I'll be curious about what's going on at Cyde C. Jordan Stadium in East St. Louis.
A trio, at least, of future Illini will be playing for the Flyers against Chicago St. Rita in the Class 7A playoffs. As often as possible, I'll be checking the IHSA's ScoreZone.
If it wins Saturday, East St. Louis will be playing the winner of tonight's game between Glenbard West and Downers Grove North. The semifinal will be in East. St. Louis is Downers Grove North wins. The Flyers will travel to Glenbard West.
East St. Louis hasn't won a state title since Bob Shannon's days in charge. Then, the school was a dominant football power. Darren Sunkett is trying to get the Flyers back to that point. Having a couple of handfuls of future college players certainly helps.
